To date, the fire retardant formulations in use are varied, but mainly consists of organic and inorganic salts or chemicals, which are often combined in various proportions in treatment formulations. Flame retardant chemical formulations were developed especially strongly in the years of World War II due to the needs of the air forces and navies of the warring countries. The composition of the fire retardants used today also adds protection to the wood against insects and termites.
